Less lethal self defense and personal protection is on a lot of people’s minds right now. This happens on occasion when there is civil unrest due to one issue or another. While it might be arguable to some people that the activities of protestors have risen to lethal status, the question remains, “What is the appropriate level of response to this kind of threat?”
With this in mind, P2P’s new HDX 68 shotgun style less-lethal personal defense device stands out for those of you who are concerned that violence will arrive in your neighborhood. The HDX 68 is powered by CO2– either 2x 12 gram cartridges via a quick pierce adapter or natively with an 88 gram CO2 cartridge. Traditional powder rounds are filled with a powder payload. When the round is launched, this powder compresses on the back of the ball and causes an imbalance that can lead to inaccurate flight, especially at longer distances. New to the market is the patented Core Defense .68 caliber less-lethal steel core ammo. This shell locates a steel ball directly in the center of the round. This mass in the center of the round allows for a much more accurate shot at longer distances, but it also ensures a much better break than is offered by traditional dust style rounds.
When used in conjunction with the HDX 68, Core Defense ammo will allow you to defend yourself and your home without resorting to a lethal defense mode. The HDX 68 will launch .68 caliber less lethal ammo at 530 FPS which creates 36 Joules of power. To put this into perspective, most competition paintball guns shoot at velocities less than 300 FPS. This power output transfers a substantial amount of energy to your target. For those of you in states or municipalities that forbid pepper products for defense, pain compliance via solid ammo is certainly a viable and persuasive option.
The HDX is not the most portable device so it is best used from a “home” base or, secondarily, in a mobile base such as an automobile.
